Seminar Bum

Yesterday during our last lecture, while everybody was taking their seat, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Suddenly, a mysterious face waltzed in, nobody seemed to notice except myself and a few other classmates, but I did not say anything. This man helped himself in finding a seat and made himself comfortable. One of the teachers confronted him asking why he was there, in which he responded that he was a student. It was ignored for another minute until something had to be done about it, so the same teacher approached him again asking him to leave; at this point it was clear that he was in unwanted territory. The man took his belongings, got up and made his way towards the exit. On his way out he made a little speech about being successful in school and achieving your goals, he told all of us to not end up like him, which I thought was very sad yet admirable. After he was finished the man made his way out the door. This man was homeless, but at least he was trying to send a good message out to the young adults in the room.

Mark Salzman has had his ups and downs in life; he has vigorously pulled through most of them. One connection between Mark and this bum would be the feeling of failure. This bum was obviously smart, but he probably came to a crossroad in his life where he was unable to finish his schooling, or he dropped out, either way he is regretting it now. Mark knows the feeling, he is not homeless, but he has so many regrets in life and the one thing he wanted to do was succeed at his passions.
