Vianca

I am benefiting from the Bridge program. I believe it’s a good way to learn to adjust to Columbia and what will be expected of you. The more practice you have at something the easier it makes it in the long run. In high school we didn’t write many papers unless it was an end of the year assignment. Writing can be very challenging for me. I need to expand more when I write. The Bridge program has opened my eyes to what I need to work on as a student. In class I need to speak up more and focus my thoughts. I’m glad I’ve been attending Bridge so I can be better prepared for class in September. Bridge has given me the opportunity to get myself together. In Take the Cannoli, Sarah only has some places she doesn’t like going to. For example, she doesn’t like attending some religious gatherings her family makes her go to when she lives in Oklahoma. Even though she doesn’t like being there, she still learns lessons from the Bible. For most of the book she is happy with her adventures. She talks about her summer vacations she took as a child to learn about her Native American heritage. She is brought to a Cherokee cultural center. The center has a re-created pre-colonial village and a museum. Her favorite part was an amphitheater which staged a dramatic re-enactment of the Trail of Tears. Sarah had fun learning about her heritage through theater and other events at the cultural center. She benefitted from taking such vacations. She knows more about herself now than she would have otherwise. Sarah and I have that in common, our experiences have made us into stronger people.
