When looking into a relationship I look for similarities between me and that person. The best thing to have in common is music. As a lover of music I can talk about the subject for a very long time. I feel like I have a wide range of favorites when it comes to music. I love alternative rock to hip-hop to some mainstream pop genres. I feel like I can always have a conversation about almost every genre. My ex boyfriend and I had a great relationship because our taste in music. Many times I would listen to a song and feel like it described our relationship so well that I had to send it to him. One song in particular that I loved to play for him was Lovesong by Adele, a cover by The Cure. It showed how much I cared even though we were so far apart. Since he was in the army he was away most of our relationship, but when I was with him everything was okay and times were amazing together. While in a great relationship sometimes you don’t always have the words to describe how you feel towards a person. Songwriters are great at pulling out all of their emotion and putting it into a song for many people to relate to. Many parts of my relationship related to a lot of the music that I listened to.
Sarah explains how her relationship had good parts and bad parts, but one thing her and her boyfriend didn’t have in common was music. I feel she felt the same way about having a song explain your feelings. She wanted upbeat music that made the relationship feel positive, but he would send just anything to her. It’s almost like not putting any effort into something that the other person puts so much effort into. Music isn’t something that can make or break a relationship like religion or other beliefs can, but it definitely shows how much someone cares.
