Lately I have found new ways to relax and they are similar to how the author in the book relaxes. When I was at camp one of my good friends taught me how to mediate and practice Thai Chi, which helps calm the inner soul. Although I am still learning about it I think that it helps very much with making me relax and calm. Another way that I like to relax is hiking. Recently it has been hard for me to go hiking since I’m living in a city now. I don’t find walking around the city very relaxing mainly because it’s noisy and it seems like everyone else around is stressed or in a rush, which gives off a negative vibe.
For the character in my book he will spend hour in his basement meditating. Although he has not perfected it and nor have I, I still think that even practicing it will calm you. When I meditate I sometimes have trouble clearing my mind but the more I practice it the easier it is for me to forget about what is happening around me. The character in my book has set up a small shrine in his basement that is an arrangement of candles and incense. Being in the proper environment is a huge key for proper mediation and it is quite easier to do so when you have access to an environment like his. He will also do other things like wear a bald cap to simulate the experience of a Zen monk. Since there isn’t much he can do to become a true Zen monk, he takes whatever he can from his surroundings to make it work. I think as the book goes on Mark will be able to slowly master meditation and eventually find true inner bliss.
