Frederick - Empathy

In my family, I’m a pillar of composure and reason. In my house its Mom vs. Dad vs. little sister in a nonstop power struggle. My sister’s a wild child bent on receiving instant gratification and waging war with all who stand in her way, namely my parents. She depends on me when push comes to shove and my parents are ready to ship her to the moon just to be done with the torrent of selfish rampages that lay waist to our house. In the end all she needs is someone to talk to and honestly listen, something my parents are bad at. They see teenage angst as b-s considering they went through the same things thirty years ago, but to my sister its realer than life and if lending an empathetic ear helps, then why not. It’s safe to say I do the same for my parents when they feud with each other, which as of late is an all too common event.

My fathers the type of man to stand his ground no matter how weak it may be, no answered he gives is to be questioned and no rule tested. This doesn’t sit well with my mom who on the other hand believes every voice should be heard, and no one should bow. Now that I think about it, I don’t really have to talk to my mom after these kinds of situations. She’s too intelligent for me to pick her brain, seeing through all my attempts at securing reconciliation between the two. This shouldn’t be taken as my father and sister aren’t smart people, because they’re both extremely bright people.

This just means my mom is a complete person. She has no mistakes to mend, and no personal problem to overcome making her a machine of a person, powering through any situation no matter how overbearing it may be. If we look at the Dinka boys, no one really relies on them except other smaller boys who seek protection from older, thieving boys. They depend on each other equally.

PS: I was looking for a picture of a brother and sister.. this was one of them haha!

  1. You don't always need to include a picture, if you don't have any that work. There are other things that you could do to make this more readable for your audience. You could try different writing styles, tell stories, use different fonts, create headers and subheaders, etc. Play around with it and see what the effect is on your audience. This way you can get a sense for what works and what doesn't.
