In the book Lost in Place, Mark finally got his license right before Christmas. This opened up a lot of opportunities for him with girls. Everybody knows that a girl loves a guy with a car that can come pick her up and take her places. I’m not saying his girlfriend was like that because Mark says she was smart, funny and a lot like him; but some girls are like that. The girl name is Annette Guillaume and he asked her out and she said yes. They started talking and simply just couldn’t stop. I would say they had big connection. After their date, Mark took her home and had to go inside. When he walked in her father nodded with approval. This is the total opposite for me.
When I had my first serious girlfriend in high school it was junior year and her name was Noemi Garcia and she was Mexican. I know you probably ask,” Why I mentioned her race?” That’s because after going out with her for a while and me noticing that after school she didn’t want me to like walk her out to her mother car I found out that her mother was racist. She didn’t like black people. When I found that out I felt bad because I started to feel like she was ashamed of me. Nobody in her family knew about me but her brother. After a little while longer she finally sits her mother down and tells her that she is dating a black dude. Her mother told her I was going to rape her, beat her, and make her sell drugs. I felt so bad that a person would feel that way about me because I wasn’t anything like that. But that didn’t break us up. We been together for a year and a half now and her mother is slowly but shortly accepting me.
