If I had to use a situation of leading or following from the book with Mark it would have to be the situation of him following Michael. Mark craved the approval of Michael. He was always at his house. Hit let Michael shoot him with bb guns. He even got beat up for him. A much older boy was messing with Mark’s bike and Mark tried to impress Michael by confronting the overly sized boy about messing with his bike. After that confrontation the Mark had to wear a cask for 6 weeks. He even started smoking pot because someone else was doing it. I think latter in the book he would become a leader and follow his own way.

I never followed anyone but my uncle and that’s because I looked up to him. He had the girls, the cars, the money, and as Freddy would say, the swag. I wanted what he had so I would act like him or even say the stuff he would say. My father noticed that I was starting to act like his brother and he didn’t like it. He would pop me up side my head if he heard me say any slang term that Cisco my uncle would use. I just wanted to be cool like him. After a while my father talked to me and said I needed to be myself and I would draw my own type of way and crowd. Getting older I started to take my own path of cool and created my own type of swag. I figured out that people needed to like me for who I was and not for someone I was trying to be. I became a leader and now people look up to me especially my brothers. I’m their role model and glad to be. My father would say “ if you act like someone else, who are your brothers going to look up to.” I knew what he was saying and had to change.
