Follow the leader

I feel like I am not as much of a leader as I am a follower. If there is someone who inspires me, I will follow them, but I won’t follow everything that they do. For example, one of my greatest influences is a musician named Steve Aoki. He is well known in the electronic music world and has been getting more and more popular. His music inspires me to make music like his, but he has had lots of issues with drugs in the past. I don’t want to be a part of that culture within the music world. I much rather just be inspired by what he has to say in his song and how he makes them. Another person who inspires me is a snowboarder by the name of Sebastian Toutant. He is from Quebec, Canada and is only 19, but he is one of the best in the world. After watching him for the first time at a competition in Colorado, his style and maneuvers inspire me to be just like him. He has won a lot of competitions and has even been awarded snowboarder of the year by Transworld Snowboarding, which happens to be the largest media firm for snowboarding.

In my book the main Character, Mark, looks up to his friend Michael for acceptance. He has started to do things like drinking and doing drugs just to be accepted by him. I think that he doesn’t have to do those things just to be a part of a group but he seems to enjoy it. Like every teen there might be things that you have to do just so people you look up to will recognize you. Kids will go to ridiculous lengths just to do so, and I think that is a huge issue. If you have to do illegal things that could put your life in danger just because a kid that you follow doesn’t like you unless you do those things, it’s a huge issue. Find someone who inspires you who isn’t involved with those sorts of things. I would say that snowboarding and making films keeps me out of trouble just because I am very passionate about them. Without them who knows what I could get myself into. I want to continue those things and maybe even pick up more hobbies that will keep me on the right path.

  1. But Mark seems to find his own way, and really it turns out that Michael is the follower. Remember that line that Bill has, something to the effect of: "You'll be all right because you've figured out Sensei is full of shit, but I'm worried about Michael."
