The Lost Boys
The reason I chose the book titled They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky, was because it stood out to me for several reasons. I liked the bright yellow cover of this book over the other options I saw. It also seemed much more interesting than the other choices. After hearing a lil bit about the book from the small paragraph on the back I was immediately drawn in. The story of these young boys and the sudden attack on their village really sparked an emotion inside of me. Knowing that these ‘Lost Boys’ were running for their life due to Arab horsemen invading their land seemed like something I’d stay in tuned with as a reader. I felt this was the right choice for me knowing that I get easily bored with reading and couldn’t see myself continuing with a story in which I would have no interest.
I really began to feel for the Ding Kak people seeing how they were constantly being attacked by outsiders. They were onstantly being questioned by those of the Monyjeng about who they are. I instantly flashed back to my childhood, being a new black student at a majority white elementary school for a year. I would constantly be asked by students where I was from and why do I attend their school.
