Staci Lyn

My book of choice was “Take the Cannoli: Stories from the New World”. When I first heard the description I was interested in the book because of the show Mob Wives. For some reason I found some connections between the two. Mob Wives is a reality television show that goes through everyday life with the wives and daughters of well known New York mobsters. The cover of the book was reminiscent of what I think the mob was in the past.

From the description I knew that the book would have short stories throughout but it jumped around more than I thought it would. Once I was able to understand a short story it jumped to the next. In the beginning there was a reoccurring theme of conflict between her and her father. On the first page it was apparent that they didn’t quite get along. She mentioned the difference of the political parties and the split between the household that reminds me of my father and me. As I read on she starts to realize the many similarities between her and her father and notices that, that might be the fuel to their conflict. It was easy to relate to what she said because it’s almost the same way in my family. My father and I are extremely similar, but we bump heads a lot. There are things that we both enjoy, but other times he knows how to push my buttons. At the end of the day I know it’s because he loves me, but at a younger age you don’t quite understand until you look back at those memories. As I read, it easier to understand because I was able to relate.
