The topic today is “Would you be friends with the authors and why.” And that’s a kind of tricky one considering my authors are 5 – 7. I wouldn’t be able to befriend such young children, but I could definitely mentor them. I’ve mentored young men before and I wouldn’t consider the young boys my friends, but there was a bond none the less. In the case of the three Dinka boys, mentoring them would be such a fun experience. Being able to put someone on running water, x box and mall pretzels would make anyone’s day. I would probably have some difficulties socializing them due to the way they were raised, especially Alpho. He’s a trouble maker and the things he does around his village, things people usually shrug off as “It’s just Alpho”, would'nt fly over here.
For example, if Alpho decided to run into someone’s hut and fake sneeze a bit of sand on their food he would be shoed away, while if that happened here, five or not, the police would have probably been called. I doubt they would like young American boys either since they grow up living such rough and rugged lives, respecting strength and wisdom, while young American boys enjoy juice boxes and look up to Scooby doo. I feel as if immigrants who aren’t yet adjusted to the “American way” if you will, have so much trouble not only fitting in, but just being able to function day to day because of our strange ways and laws. The Dinka wouldn’t understand traffic commands, certain “sophisticated” mannerisms or even the concept of being quite during movies as the boys are used to running freely though the village, pushing their lungs to the limit with laughter.
My answers yes, yes I would be friends with these boys. How could I not? I could only hope someone would do the same for me in their position.
I like the cultural differences that you're pointing to in this post, Freddy. That would be a really good idea to develop in greater detail.
