Hello my name is Dakarai Lashley Jr but people call me DJ. I’m here at Columbia to study film and video. I came from Thornton fractional north high school where I fell in love with the TV production department /class. When I first took that class I knew that that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It just didn’t feel like a job to me. My father always told me to get a job that I wouldn’t mind getting up sick to do. Get a job where I won’t be mad at. Just something I love to do and this is it. You can tell a lot about me thru my short films a make.

I love to laugh and make other people laugh. Comedy is a big thing to me when I’m making a commercial or to advertise something. I made a short film named “TO LOUD ON THE BUS”. It is about a boy getting on a bus with a boom box playing it really loud. After a combination of events happen he is eventually kicked off the bus. This film had people laughing and wanting more but this shows my comedy and laughing side of me.

I love anything and everything to do with the mafia and the godfather. I have watched all the godfathers over 100 times. I’m being serious here. I created a trailer called “HIT MAN ON CAMPUS”. Well when I wrote this and gave the script to my teacher for approval to start shooting he approved it. After about two weeks we were done and it was amazing. Well after a month the teachers and staff found the video on YouTube and went to the principle and he went to the superintendent. The issue was we were running around the school with fake guns that looked real and unsupervised. Well after meetings and interrogations my teacher Mr.speski was suspended for letting us shoot that and my teacher Mr.Malik was suspended for letting us shoot some of the video in his class. Hit Man On Campus is the best film I have created so far but being at Columbia I’m knowing that change.
